This is Soul...
Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band.
Jimmy James With Special Guest PP Arnold.
Whilst our British rockers were invading the US in the sixties, American soul survivors were launching their own attack on the UK music scene. Ordinary British teenagers developed a passion for Afro-American and Caribbean music and sixties mods embraced the transatlantic sounds which help to break down traditional British reserve. As the popularity of soul increased, it moved from the UK underground to the mainstream and for the first time black and white music fans danced together in the soul clubs that were opening up around the country. The home of UK Soul was split between the California Ballroom in the South, and the legendary Wigan Casino in the North. The style of music in each venue differed greatly, giving rise to the terms Northern and Southern Soul.
This is Soul brings together the pioneers of the British Soul scene in one sensational show.
Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band spearheaded the UK invasion had two of the biggest selling UK albums of the sixties, amazingly both were live albums and their level of touring and the high energy of his gigs was, and still is the stuff of legends.
Jimmy James brings his own vintage soul and infectious style to this line-up. After achieving success in his native Jamaica, Jimmy came to England and joined the Vagabonds where he guided them into becoming a leading live attraction in the 60's.
With Special Guest PP Arnold. Fellow soul pioneer PP Arnold completes this soul explosion with her impressive, powerful and
soulful voice. After paying her soul dues as one of the original members of The Ikettes, the must-see staples of every Ike and Tina Turner performance, PP went on to be a mainstay in the UK soul scene an remains a firm favourite. Foot Stompin Soul.
