Leisure and Communities Present Fiddlers' Bid and Young Trad Tour 2010. Fiddlers' Bid are internationally acclaimed as perhaps Scotland's most exciting and dynamic fiddle band. Hailing from Shetland, they are a veritable furnace of four incredibly fiddle players - Chris Stout, Kevin Henderson, Maurice Henderson and Andrew Gifford - additionally powered by a rhythm engine-room of guitar, piano and bass, while the band also features arguably the nations' most exciting and diverse clarsach (harp) player Catriona McKay. Fiddler's Bid's latest album 'All Dressed in Yellow' won 'Best Album of the Year' at the 2009 Scottish Traditional Music Awards and 'Instrumental Album of the Year' 2009 on the folk music website 'Spiral. The Young Trad Tour 2010 is a showcase for the cream of the new generation of Scottish musicians and as well as being highly talented solo performers, the sound they create as a band is energetic, dynamic and full of promise for the tradition they carry. They are all finalists and winners of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year award organised by Hands Up for Trad which takes place each year at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. There's a real powerhouse of Scottish fiddling in this band led by this year's winner Daniel Thorpe, who, along with last year's winner, Ruairidh MacMillan create an unforgettable twin fiddle sound. Beautiful Gaelic airs and clarsach tunes from Mairi Chaimbeul from Skye and Hannah Phillips from Glasgow. From the Irish tradition comes Paddy Callaghan on accordion and harp (Glasgow) And not forgetting the big sound of the Highland pipes played in his inimitable style by Lorne MacDougall from Argyll joined this year by fellow piper, Kyle Warren from Helensburgh.
