Deacon Blue Announce Scottish Tour
Band celebrate 25 years of ‘Raintown’Thursday 4th October @ 7.00pm
One of Scotland's best loved acts is set to return for a string of shows which will see them mark 25 years since the release of their debut album ‘Raintown’.
With their name being inspired by a Steely Dan song and their music influenced by the artfulness of Bruce Springsteen channelled through a distinctly Scottish upbringing, Deacon Blue have proved themselves to be one of the most successful acts ever to have emerged from Glasgow.
Success did not come overnight. A commitment to live performance – never being afraid to have fun onstage – has been the key to the band’s success. The band has enjoyed five top five albums and 18 top 40 singles. 25 years since the release of their debut album, Deacon Blue's enduring success can be measured by six million album sales and an almost peerless live reputation.
Upon its initial release, Raintown was met with great critical success but little commercial. But when the album was re-released a tour and a year later, it spent 77 weeks on the UK chart. The first single from 1989’s When The World Knows Your Name, Real Gone Kid, was nominated at the Brit Awards for Best Single. When the album was released it entered the chart at number one, displacing a certain American singer by the name of Madonna and her album Like a Prayer.
2012 is set to be a very promising year, as Deacon Blue celebrate their 25th anniversary they reunite to work on original material for a new studio album, set for release in September alongside a re-release campaign of their entire catalogue.

A group of ordinary women, members of a very ordinary Yorkshire WI, spark a global phenomenon by persuading one another to pose for a charity calendar with a difference! As interest snowballs, the Calendar Girls find themselves revealing more than they’d ever planned…
Lesley Joseph shot to fame as Dorien Green, the neighbour from hell, in the BBC’s comedy Birds of Feather. She appeared in over 100 episodes filmed over a period of nine years. The show, and her character, become a national institution, watched at its height by over 20 million people.

Su Holderness is best known as Marlene Boyce in the BBC’s hugely popular Only Fools and Horses as well as the spin off series The Green Green Grass. On stage, Su’s credits include Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking and How the Other Half Loves.
Deena Payne is probably best known as Viv Hope in Emmerdale, a role she’s played for eighteen years making her the longest serving female cast member on the programme.
Camiila Dallerup, one of the Strictly Come Dancing professionals, makes her acting debut as the beautician Elaine.
Kathryn Rooney returns to Calendar Girls having starred in the West End production. Her other credits include Rebecca with Nigel Havers, Buddy and Beauty and the Beast. During a long and distinguished career.
Helen Fraser has appeared in theatres up and down the country and made countless television appearances. Most recently, she played the formidable prison officer Sylvia ‘Bodybag’ Holamby in Bad Girls.
Ruth Madoc, best known as Gladys Pugh in Hi-De-Hi has more recently been seen on our screens as Dafydd’s mother in Little Britain.
Kevin Sacre, who plays Lawrence the photography, joins Calendar Girls from Hollyoaks in which he plays the slightly disturbed Jake Dean. Kevin says he is thrilled to be joining Calendar Girls and touring with his wife, Camillla Dallerup!
Susan Bovell, Robert Gill and Bruce McGregor complete the cast.
Tim Firth has adapted the screenplay of his smash hit Miramax film for the stage. The film was released in 2003 and was an instant hit at the box office, becoming the number one grossing film in the UK on its release. Tim’s other credits include the films Blackball and Kinky Boots and the award winning Preston Front for the BBC. His theatre credits include the plays Neville’s Island, The Safari Party, The Flint Street Nativity and the Olivier Award winning musical Our House.
